I will give my best advice based on knowledge and experience that I have acquired throughout 52 years of working in this field. It should not be taken as the final word or the only answer as there are many factors to take into consideration when answering questions such as this. Not having all the facts will certainly muddy the outcome. Just remember that plants, like people, need certain conditions to thrive. Not special, just what they need.
The Evolution of Conestoga House Continued
We will now continue with the history of Conestoga House & Gardens. The last blog left off right before the Steinman's purchased the property in 1927.
Colorful, Care-Free Plants to Grow Now
We are getting back to Plant Care in this Blog. Assuming you have already purchased the plants you’d like to put in your containers or beds, you can now prepare to plant them. This time is best as the threat of frost should be over, even though we will still have a few cool or even cold nights until we get into the month of June. I will trust that you heeded my advice on acclimating the plants to full spectrum light before planting by having them in the shade for a few days.
The Early Evolution of Conestoga House
This next blog, let’s take a look at the complex history of Conestoga House. The property dates all the way back to 1717 and was a William Penn grant to two families, Christian Hershey and Hans Brubaker. It consisted of 1,000 acres that were split into 500-acre plots for each family, shown in the map below.

I think everyone looks forward to Spring, as it arrives after a dark, cold Winter that usually seems much longer than the other seasons. We all look for that bright flash of vibrant color and longer days of sunshine and warmth. We finally get out into some fresh air and use muscles we haven’t used since last Spring.
